Youth groups are back in person!

Middle schoolers meet every Sunday from 4:30-6:00pm,
while high schoolers meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 7:00-8:30pm.
We will be meeting either outside on the lawn or in the Fellowship Hall, depending on weather conditions.
For more information, contact Alli.

Virtual Youth Events

During the pandemic, middle school and high school youth group activities were held virtually, but we were still busy! Here’s a quick taste of what we’ve been up to lately:

  • Showing off our random talents for using chopsticks, catching M&Ms in our mouth, flipping plastic cups, and more during Minute to Win It Day

  • Having a virtual campfire night and making the World’s Tiniest S’mores out of teddy grahams, mini marshmallows, and chocolate chips

  • Exploring ways that we can use coloring as a form of stress relief, meditation, and prayer

  • Playing quarantine bingo to remind us that we’re all going through many of the same things in this crazy year

  • Participating in a pen pal project to help our youth stay connected to older members of the congregation

If you’d like to join in on the fun, we would love to have you! Middle school youth group meets every Sunday at 4:30pm, and high school youth group meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at 7:00pm. If you’re interested in joining us, email Alli or just show up!

Middle School

Middle School Sunday School 10-10:50am

During the School Year

On Sunday mornings from 10-10:50am, middle schoolers (6th-8th Grade) will gather together for ‘Sunday School’ in the Youth Room. This is a chance to dig into some of the tough questions about the intersection of faith and life.  Topics include creating HABITS of Faith, School, Jesus and Relationships. This  short class engages youth in active learning through games, discussion, art, and fellowship.

Note: In response to the discussion from our recent Parent Meeting, we will no longer have Youth Group for Middle School this Spring. Instead, once a month we will offer intergenerational gatherings. Our first will be on April 23 to set up for the Book Sale. Check your email for more information or contact Mandy.

High School

Youth Group on Sundays 7:15-8:45pm, except 1st Sunday

Most Sundays we have High School Youth Group from 7:15-8:45pm. We will not meet on the first Sunday of each month, so families can attend Dinner Church. This is a crazy fun time of games and faith building. We have a 'family meal' together to catch up on our weeks then we move into our main activity and faith formation. At the beginning of each semester, we have a ‘Draft Day’ to choose the activities we will be participating in for the coming months. You get to choose how you want to connect with God, your faith and build community.  The Draft Day results will be posted in the Youth Room so you don’t miss your favorite events.

Parents

Dinner
We encourage each family, as they are able, to provide dinner for the group at least once a semester.  In the past we have found that meals that can be assembled work well (taco bar, pasta bar, sandwiches, buddha bowl, etc).  This helps to accommodate picky eaters and those with special dietary needs. Another tip is to bring a meal that will make good leftovers for your family as the group size can fluctuate.

We do have some paper products at the church, but you are encouraged to use the church's dishes and run the dishwasher at the end of the meal.  When you provide dinner, you are expected to also clean up after the meal.

Special Programs

rmcucc.org/news-events/Front Range Youth Events
Another cool way you can connect with Youth Ministry at Plymouth is through our Front Range Youth Events (FRYE).  These special events are for both Middle Schoolers and High Schoolers. We get together with UCC youth from Greeley, Fort Collins, Longmont, Windsor and  Boulder.  These fun, large events typically (but not always) happen on the first Sunday of the month.

Camping and Retreat Ministry
An important part of faith formation for young people (and adults) is breaking the rhythms of our daily lives and experiencing God in a new environment.  Three times a year our youth make a pilgrimage to La Foret Conference and Retreat center in the beautiful Black Forest of Colorado Springs. This place is a ‘thin spot’ where the veil between heaven and earth fades away and you are surrounded by the Holy.

At La Foret, our youth participate in retreats and summer camp that are run by committed volunteers from the Rocky Mountain Conference UCC.  We travel together to La Foret with adult chaperones from our church and join up with youth from across Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. It is a wonderful exploration of progressive faith development.

Confirm Your Faith at Plymouth
Exploring and confirming Christian faith through participation in the Body of Christ here at Plymouth.

Every other year, Plymouth offers confirmation to high schoolers. This year is a confirmation year!
Resources here.

Summer Trip
Every summer, Plymouth sends its 8th-12th graders on a trip. We alternate: odd years, we have a mission experience; and even years, we have a faith-focused event.

This year, we will be going to UCC National Youth Event Unite! at Purdue University, July 22-25. Register here (registration opens in February)
