PLanned Giving

Planned Giving is a way to support Plymouth Congregational Church in the future
through arrangements you make today utilizing a planned gift.

Planned gifts are charitable contributions that are planned for in the present but not fully received by the beneficiary until a later date. Planned gifts to churches often are made through wills and trusts. Other types of planned gifts may pay you income during your life or help reduce or avoid income and estate taxes. The variety of possible planned gifts is great. How you make your gift is important, but more important is the impact your planned gift will have on the causes that matter to you most.

This page is designed to make it easy for you to get the information you need when considering a planned gift. You will also find information to share with your financial advisor and/or estate planner. When you are ready, you can use this site to reach out to us to share your plans, let us know what you are considering, or just to start a confidential conversation about what’s possible.

Plymouth Congregational Church Legacy Society

Legacy Society members are Plymouth members and friends who support Plymouth annually and also are donating a portion of their accumulated assets at the end of their lives or sooner through a planned gift. The church has more than 60 Legacy Society members and, the group grows in number every year. They gratefully acknowledge that they have received much from those who have preceded them. Now it is their turn to extend and enhance the ministries of the church far into the future.

Reasons to Build Your Plymouth Legacy

Picture
The history of our church, Plymouth Congregational UCC in Fort Collins, goes back  more than 100 years. The founders of Plymouth invested in property and a church building that they knew would become a vital part of a growing Fort Collins community

As a member of this community, one of the things that you can do is to ensure that your passion for ministry and mission will continue beyond your time here, all of this for the beneficiaries of a great legacy in Plymouth and the United Church of Christ.

I invite you to consider including Plymouth when you are creating a will or financial plans as a way to enhance your passion for ministry and mission.

What Matters Most

Picture
Your well-considered planned gift can make an impact on a specific area of need. Consider directing your planned gift to these core missions and ministries or directing your planned gift as an unrestricted gift to Plymouth Congregational Church.

  • Wider Mission of the UCC. Supports work of the UCC in the USA and overseas. Includes affordable housing, new churches, leadership development, seminaries, and world mission. Plymouth selects projects and programs to be funded.

  • Community Service and Outreach. Supports programs and services through Christian or interfaith social service, community action, and ecumenical groups relating to spiritual, social, and economic needs of our community.

  • Infrastructure Improvements. For capital improvements and modifications of facilities, information and communication systems, and office equipment that normally cannot be funded through annual giving and capital campaign efforts.

  • Christian Formation. Provides special programs for children, youth and adults, enabling them to grow in their understanding of Christian faith. Also funds church camping, retreats, leadership conferences, and scholarships to attend college and seminary programs to prepare for a church-related vocation.

  • Worship, Music, and Art. Brings inspirational music, visual art, dance, special worship experiences, and all forms of art to Plymouth. Funds may be used to purchase equipment and instruments and may pay commissions, and honorariums.

  • All of the Above. It is not necessary to select specific areas you wish to support with your planned gift. In the case of undesignated planned gifts, the usual formula is 30% of the gift for the “Wider Mission of the UCC,” 20% for “Community Service and Outreach,” 20% for “Infrastructure Improvements,” 15% for “Christian Formation,” and 15% for “Worship, Music and Art."

How to Give

As a donor, you have total discretion over your planned gift. You have options for how your planned gift will be used, what to give and how to give. There are planned gifts you can provide for in a Will or trust and planned gifts that provide income to you and/or a beneficiary for their lifetime.

  • Gifts from Your Will (Bequests) Through a provision in your written and executed will or living trust, you can make a planned gift (or an outright gift as well) to Plymouth in the form of cash, securities, real estate or personal property. There are many types of bequests. Consult with your attorney to choose the one that best fits your needs and intentions. Download Bequest Language

  • Gifts that Pay You (Charitable Gift Annuities). You can turn underperforming or non-income producing assets (cash, stock, CDs, savings bonds, etc.) into a gift to Plymouth that provides income to you or you and a loved one. (One example of several available options is a Gift Annuity.) Your UCF Charitable Gift Annuity will return fixed, quarterly payments for life and provide tax benefits, too.

  • Beneficiary Gifts (Retirement Accounts and other Funds). Naming Plymouth as the beneficiary or one of the beneficiaries of a qualified retirement plan asset such as an IRA, 401(k), or 403(b) will accomplish a charitable goal while realizing a significant tax savings. Download Beneficiary Form

  • Gifts of Appreciated Assets (Buy Low. Give High.) When you donate appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares instead of cash, the benefit the church receives exceeds the cost of the original securities purchased. You'll receive a charitable deduction for the full amount of your gift and avoid the impact of the capital gains taxes on the appreciated securities. Download Stock Transfer Info

  • Gifts of Life Insurance Name Plymouth as the beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy; donate an existing, paid-up life insurance policy you no longer need; or purchase a new life insurance policy and name Plymouth as the owner and beneficiary.
